Designing Emptiness

How can we give form to emptiness? And what happens when design meets material?

“Designing Emptiness” is a hands-on sculptural workshop that guides participants in creating three-dimensional forms through a simple yet surprising process: designing a mold to generate a sculpture.

A sculpture workshop exploring geometry, space, and matter

APRIL 20, 2026 - 3:00 P.M.

SuperPlayground, Superstudio Village - Via Negrotto 59, Milano

ONLY 12 SEATS AVAILABLE

What we’ll do

Starting with a short visual introduction to contemporary artists working with space, volume, and structure, we will move into the core of the experience:

  • Developing abstract geometric forms
  • Building cardboard molds
  • Casting plaster to create unique sculptural forms
  • Observing and discussing the results

The outcome will be a series of three-dimensional objects born from the dialogue between design and material process.

What you’ll explore

  • The relationship between positive and negative in sculpture
  • The expressive potential of plaster
  • The interplay between geometry, space, and construction
  • The creative process as a tool for discovery

Why participate

  • Explore sculpture through a hands-on, accessible approach
  • Train your eye to observe space and form
  • Work both physically and conceptually
  • Discover new ways of creating from simple rules

Who it’s for

The workshop is open to anyone interested in art, design, or hands-on experimentation.
No technical skills are required—just curiosity and a willingness to get involved.

Led by

Giuseppe Buffoli, an artist working between sculpture and installation, exploring balance, tension, and spatial perception through materials and measurement devices transformed into poetic elements.
